Cancer Registrars collect accurate and timely cancer data and report this data to state and federal registries. The data collected is on the occurrence of cancer, the type and site of cancer, the extent of the cancer at the time of diagnosis, and the treatment that the patient receives. Core duties of the cancer registrar include case finding, abstracting and follow-up. Key qualifications include experience in medical terminology, skill in computer operations, a strong knowledge base in anatomy and physiology, and an understanding of statistics and database management.
