Culinary Arts Program

Selective Admissions

Culinary Art Degree
Students interested in the Culinary Arts Program degree must apply through the Selective Health Admission process. Submission of a “complete file” is required prior to the evaluation process and consists of the following: 

  • Application to Owens Community College
  • Owens Community College cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • High School transcripts or GED record
  • Applicants must be ready for entry into ENG 11 (or have completed it with a passing grade) and into MTH 108 (or have completed it with a passing grade).

Contact the Office of Admissions for specific information and final date for application.
Students selected for the Culinary Arts Degree must accept their seat within 2 weeks of notice of acceptance. Failure to do so will forfeit the student entrance into the program.
Applicants who have not met the academic admissions requirements for entrance into the Program may take developmental and arts and sciences courses as specified by the Program. Upon successful completion of these courses, the student may reapply for entrance into the Program. The Program accepts 10 students twice each year (Fall and Spring Semesters). All students enrolled in the Program must earn a “C” grade or better in each technical course. Students who do not earn a “C” grade or better in an FNH course may be readmitted only one time on a space available basis.

  • Developmental coursework completed in Math

Non-Academic Readmission
Students who leave the Program for other than academic reasons may request readmission.  Readmission is granted providing there is an opening in the Program.

Academic Readmission
A student requesting readmission after being dismissed with a “D” or “F” grade in any FNH course must complete the following:

  • Earn a “C” grade or better in the following courses: MTH 108 , IST 100 , ENG 111 , ENG 112 , FNH 135 .
  • Have a 2.0 overall GPA.
  • Pass a culinary lab proficiency examination to demonstrate previously acquired skills.
  • Meet with an academic counselor to develop a written academic plan.

No second readmission will be considered. All FNH courses must be completed within five years from the initial entrance into the Hospitality Management Program.
