Theatre

Department of Creative Arts and Media

This concentration is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor’s degree in Theatre.

Transfer institutions may require different courses for this transfer program. Students should tailor their Owens program as closely as possible to the requirements at their four-year school of choice. Meet with an academic advisor for more information.

This program provides its majors with a variety of courses both in acting and technical theatre.

Theatre majors will take a wide range of courses from acting and character movement to performance studies and technical theatre.

Students will have the opportunity to apply these skills by auditioning for roles in student productions each Fall and Spring semester. The winner of these roles in student productions also will be awarded performance scholarships. Past productions have included “Tartuffe” by Moliere, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” by Steve Martin and “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”.

Theatre Express is another opportunity for students and faculty to collaborate on new works. Each Fall Semester, Theatre Express hosts a festival of 10-minute plays that are written, rehearsed and performed in a 24-hour timeframe. Sure to challenge any future actor or playwright.
