Your body and mind are connected. When your body is well taken care of, you have more energy to address stress. Eat healthfully, avoid excess use of alcohol/tobacco, exercise, and make sure to get 7-9 hours of sleep. Keeping up with annual wellness checks at the doctor will help you address physical needs regularly, instead of when a big problem arises.
We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be productive. And being productive is good for us! But, we also need breaks. Schedule meaningful activities into your life: hiking, coffee with a friend, watch a favorite movie, engage in the arts, etc.
We see in research that our support system is important in helping us get through times of stress. Make sure to find ways to nurture relationship. Call that friend you haven’t spoken to in a while. Schedule a time to get together with a family member you haven’t seen. Connect with a faith community or volunteer.
Being outside does wonders! Beyond soaking up the necessary Vitamin D from the sun, getting out and being active is important for overall health. Check out a metropark, get a walking buddy. Now that the weather is warming up, it’s a good time to get outside.
Call a close friend. Make an appointment at the Counseling Center. Our mental health is just as important as our physical health.
Oftentimes we see this increases stress. You can set a timer, do a social media fast, turn off push notifications, and eliminate screen time an hour before bedtime. You’ll have more time to make meaningful connections with others and do something fun!
