Fire Safety on Campus

Owens Community College and the Department of Public Safety have taken measures to ensure the safety of our buildings and their occupants.

If you detect a fire in a campus building:

  • Immediately pull the fire alarm Call the Department of Public Safety at Ext. 7411 from in-house lines, pick up the nearest emergency phone for immediate contact, or call 911 directly (9,911 from in-house lines) Exit the building immediately. Use stairways not elevators.
  • If you hear the fire alarm sounding, immediately leave the building.

The college does not practice fire drills. All alarms should be considered true alarms until authorized personnel tell you otherwise.

The fire alarms systems are inspected once a year and maintained throughout the year by the Department of Public Safety.

Fire extinguishers are located throughout the campus in every building and in the back of security vehicles. They are inspected once a year and checked on a monthly basis by the Department of Public Safety to ensure they are fully charged and operational.
