Over the past couple of years, the Owens Environmental Club (OEC) has been involved in a variety of activities that have all been funded by club fundraisers. Following is a partial list of those activities:

  • Annual Environmental Fair
  • Helped secure $75,000 recycling grant for Owens campus
  • Environmental Career Day Sponsor
  • Donate to Native Energy Wind Turbine Project located on the Rosebud Indian Reservation, South Dakota
  • Give away candy bars on campus to raise recycling awareness
  • Buy and give away recycled pencils and other educational materials for Recycle Day on campus
  • Participate in Walk for the World river clean-up and fundraiser
  • Ottawa River clean-ups along with the Maumee Rap
  • Pay for signage on Ottawa River for environmental awareness (ongoing)
  • Owens Campus Clean-up (trash pick-up)
  • A few members of the Environmental Club
  • Donate to Sierra Club
  • Kitty Todd preserve cleanup to help bring back wetlands
  • Recycling of computers and plastics on campus
  • Sneaker recycling
  • Inkjet & printer cartridge recycling
  • Clothing drive for homeless
  • Owens Spring Fling
  • Human-I-Tees fundraisers
  • Maumee Rap Green Feet fundraisers
  • Contacting Senators and Governors on environmental issues
  • Cell phone recycling drive
  • Eyeglass recycling drive for Lion Club
  • Planted 3 trees on campus
  • Participate in Reg. Rocks Days
  • Donated to Adopt American Network Dinner Auction
  • Donated to the Support the Troops campaign
  • Helped with Katrina Relief effort
  • Helped with Tsunami Relief fundraiser
  • Mission trip to Haiti
  • Helped with Toledo Ohio Community Gardens
  • Helped with Owens Community College Community Garden and donated Compost Bins and rain barrels
  • Helped fund Cherry Street Mission's recycling program
  • Installed picnic benches on the Toledo campus

Other things the OEC are looking to do:

  • Coordinate with UT and BGSU on projects
  • Address other environmental concerns
  • Make up recycled memo pads and distribute to campus offices
  • Have in office paper recycling boxes
  • Continued effort of recycling toner and inkjet cartridges on campus and in the community
  • Planting of more trees on both campuses
  • Native garden setting area on campus
  • Ash borer remedy involvement
  • More environmental awareness tables on campus
