Learn more about the FPA Internship Program!

The School of Liberal Arts (SLA) is devoted to making sure that all students succeed, both in and out of the classroom. Internships with area employers have proven to provide students with lifelong learning experiences that are directly applicable to the student’s educational goals. The goal of our internships is to provide qualified students with the opportunity to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom, while gaining experience and knowledge in the working world.

SLA Internships are temporary, semester-long positions, usually without pay. Students participating in the internships earn 2 college credits toward their degree. Students usually participate in an internship after they have completed 3 semesters of course work. A GPA of at least 2.5 is required to participate.

The intent of the SLA Internship is to offer participating employers highly productive interns who are career motivated towards a specific profession and assists students in acquiring on-the-job experience while they are attending college.

The Owens Community College School of Liberal Arts is pleased to offer this beneficial opportunity for both students and our community partners.

Host Testimonials

We could not be more thrilled with the interns from Owens. When first approached, I was definitely skeptical, but the process has been very easy and the students have been wonderful. They come in very green, and by the end of the program, they have learned a great deal about the real work place and all the moving parts. The students are very professional and want to learn. I look forward to a long relationship with Owens.

Owens Community College has been a great outlet for top-notch interns. We have been collaborating with Owens for several years now. Their interns know the value of having an internship. Their goal is to learn as much as possible, and to share their knowledge of what they have learned at Owens Community College as well. It is not all about the credits, but the many different levels of learning they will experience. It is definitely hands on learning in every department here at Glass City Radio.

Thanks again, Owens Community College.

Midstory works to cultivate young people through creative storytelling and research, and it has been a joy to host students from the Commercial Photography Technology program. We are always looking for bright, motivated students with a passion for bettering the community. Willingness to learn and adapt, as community needs change is key, so we appreciate young people who are willing to jump right in to any task! Our intern from Owens has proven to fulfill each of these characteristics and we look forward to hosting more!

We are proud to be part of a program that lets students participate in the live sound and lighting industry. Interns learn first-hand, what is involved with putting on large-scale events. They also receive hands on experience with the everyday operation and logistics of running a production company.
