Why did you choose Owens? I have chosen Owens Community College because I wanted to make my transition from high school to college smooth, and not so scary nor intimidating.

What do you like about the US? The things I like about the United States are: how clean everything is, how rules are followed, the education system and the beautiful metro parks.

What do you like/miss about home? What I like about home is the warm weather and sandy beaches at all times; and what I miss the most about home is my mother and delicious Venezuelan food.

What do you like about Owens Community College? The environment at Owens is so friendly, and instructors/staff/faculty are so friendly as well that I, as an international student, was able to experience the American culture in an easier way. This is what I like about Owens.

Hobbies or unique interests? My hobby is art. I like drawing, painting and sculpting.

Name: Stanley Kaguima

City, Country of Origin: Nakuru, Kenya

Job on campus: Student Peer Advisor at the office of International Student Services

Major(s): Pre-professional Engineering

Why did you choose Owens? I chose Owens because of its affordable price, and a well renowned pre-professional engineering program.

What do you like about the US? I like the diversity in the US. I get to meet a lot of people from allover the world. Also, in the US, people are so friendly and welcoming (I have a great host family), that makes me feel at home away from home. Technology and facilities also make learning easier. It, surely, feels good to be in a first world country.

What do you like/miss about home? I miss my family and close friends, who have always given me a lot of moral and material support to be here. What I like most about home is the close interaction with nature. Wildlife is easily accessible and by just a simple picnic you get to see a lot of beautiful sceneries. I also like the way holidays and special events are celebrated back home, especially Christmas and New Years.

What do you like about Owens Community College? Owens offers my pre-engineering program at a more affordable price compared to my previous college. Also, at Owens, I can set a flexible schedule to suit my lifestyle. The faculty and instructors are very helpful and reach out to the students at a personal level and classes are of manageable size.

Hobbies or unique interests? I write poems, articles and scripts, and have a plan of developing a magazine. I also play guitar, enjoy listening to music, debates. I enjoy doing charity and voluntary work especially as a peer educator.
