Medical Assistants are the only allied health professional specifically trained to work in ambulatory settings (such as physician offices, clinics and group practices). Medical Assistants are multi-skilled personnel who are capable of performing administrative and clinical procedures. A medical assistant performs delegated clinical and administrative duties within the supervising physicians' scope of practice consistent with medical assisting education, training and experience.
The duties of medical assistants vary from office to office depending on the location and size of the practice and the practitioner's specialty. Medical Assistants consistently interact with other people and may have to handle several responsibilities at once. They deal with the public, therefore they must be neat and well groomed and have a courteous, pleasant manner. Medical Assistants must be able to put patients at ease and explain physician's instructions. Clinical responsibilities require a reasonable level of manual dexterity and visual acuity.
This program is offered on the Toledo and Findlay campuses.
