Michael Rickard Named Conference Co-Athletic Director of the Year

  Michael Rickard, Athletic Director at Owens Community College, has been named the "Co-Athletic Director of the Year" by the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC).

  Anthony Gholson, of Columbus State Community College, also was named "Co-Athletic Director of the Year".

  He has served the Owens athletics programs for 17 years. He is a 1982 Owens graduate with an associate degree in sports recreation and a 1984 University of Toledo graduate with a bachelor's degree in education and recreation/sports management. He is working on a master's degree in sports administration at Bowling Green State University.

  Last year, Rickard was named the new OCCAC Commissioner. As commissioner, Rickard manages day-to-day business of the conference, which includes nine colleges competing in seven sports.

  Rickard also was named OCCAC Athletic Director of the Year for 1995-96. He is a member of the National Intramural, Recreation and Sports Association, as well as the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

  He has been associated with Owens athletics teams since the 1979-80 season, serving as a scorekeeper, statistician and assistant coach under three men's basketball coaches.
