Rich Pivoriunas, former Eastwood High School baseball coach, has been named the new head coach for the Owens Community College men's baseball team.
"We are quite proud to have Rich join our athletic program. He brings a lot of valuable baseball experience and leadership as a coach to our baseball team," said Michael Rickard, Athletic Coordinator at Owens.
Pivoriunas replaces Dave Wagner, who resigned this summer at Owens Community College to accept a position in the engineering department at Tri-State University in Angola, Ind. Wagner led the Express twice to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II College World Series during his four years as head coach.
Pivoriunas coached baseball for 13 years at Eastwood and 12 years at Pike-Delta-York schools. He holds a record of 315-190 in 25 seasons of coaching. He played baseball and football at the University of Toledo and is a UT graduate.
Pivoriunas also is a part-time academic advisor for Owens Community College and a guidance counselor at Eastwood. He and his wife, Colleen, live in Maumee.
Bob Schultz, the assistant varsity baseball coach at Waite High School for the past four years, has been named as the assistant Owens Express baseball coach.
Schultz, a 1984 Waite High School graduate, played baseball for four years at the University of Findlay and was captain of the varsity team his senior year. He graduated from UF in 1988. He is the executive director of the Aurora Gonzales Community and Family Resource Center in Toledo.
