The Owens Community College women's volleyball team is hoping to return to the national championships this year with the help of Assistant Coach Heather Grieser, an Archbold native.
Grieser, a 1993 graduate of Archbold High School, returns for a second year with the Lady Express coaching staff, bringing a variety of volleyball experience as a coach and player. Last year, Grieser helped to lead the Lady Express to the national champions and to go undefeated in their division.
"Last year, Heather had a lot of administrative coaching duties and this will be her first year having more responsibility as a coach on the court and during practice. She's shown that she can provide a lot of direction and leadership for our team and I'm very confident in her abilities as a coach," Head Coach Fred Aubuchon said.
Grieser has served as president of the University of Toledo women's volleyball club for two years, as a volunteer coach for the University of Toledo Men's Volleyball Club and competes in beach volleyball tournaments and USA Volleyball. Last summer, she worked at a number of volleyball camps throughout Ohio and Michigan.
Aubuchon said he believes Grieser is a great asset to his coaching staff. "Her knowledge of Northwest Ohio volleyball programs also will be an aid in recruiting," he said.
"This is a great opportunity for me to break into coaching at a higher level," Grieser said. "I've really learned a lot about the game and about coaching which will help me in my future plans to be a high school coach."
Grieser is the daughter of Tim and Sue Grieser of Archbold and the granddaughter of Ivan and Kathryn Grieser of Archbold.
