Maumee Woman Receives Nursing Honor

Paulette M. DiCesare of Maumee has been named the recipient of the Dr. Peggy A. Bensman Nursing Honor Award at Owens Community College. She was presented the award by Laurie Erford, Owens nursing instructor, at a recent Academic Recognition Brunch.

DiCesare, who graduated with honors, was one of 375 graduates at Fall Commencement December 18 at Owens Community College.

Erford said DiCesare deserved the honor because of her "academic achievement, leadership within the community, as well as professional leadership."

DiCesare is a member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. She also has participated in the Grades for AIDS program that benefits the Pediatric AIDS Foundation. She is a certified volunteer for the American Red Cross, having volunteered at many blood drives, including the College's last fall.

DiCesare has been a member of the National Student Nurse Association, the Ohio Student Nurse Association and the Owens Community College Student Nurse Association, which she has held the offices of vice president, secretary and newsletter editor.

She plans to start her nursing career working at The Toledo Hospital in the intensive care unit and will continue her education by obtaining a bachelor's of science in nursing to eventually become a nurse practitioner.

The prestigious nursing award is named for Dr. Peggy A. Bensman, former Owens Vice President of Academic Affairs and first chair of the Owens School of Nursing.
