Owens Express Basketball Team Returns to No. 1 in National Poll

The Owens Community College men's basketball team again has been voted No. 1 in the nation by the National Junior College Athletic Association among Division II junior/community colleges.

The Owens Express spent three weeks in January at the top of the list, dropping to No. 5 for two weeks after losing to Sinclair CC and Cincinnati State CC. The Express now has an overall record of 22-3 and an 11-2 conference record.

"We've been in this position before," Head Coach Jim Welling said. "As we head into the end of the season, this is when all the hard work and effort really counts."

Two-time national champions, the Owens Express was ranked No. 2 in pre-season polls.

The Owens Community College women's basketball team has been voted 11th place in the NJCAA polls. The Lady Express has an overall record of 22-4 and a conference record of 11-2.

The Owens Express plays their final game of the regular season Saturday at Edison State CC in an Ohio Community College Athletic Association (OCCAC) game. The OCCAC State Tournament will be February 27-March 1 at Lakeland CC in Mentor, Ohio.

The Lady Express plays their final home game of the season Saturday at 2 p.m. against Edison State CC in Alumni Hall.
