Women's Basketball Team Heads to Nationals

The Owens Community College women's basketball team has made their dream come true this season, heading to the national championships in Hagerstown, Maryland on Wednesday, March 18.

"I'm very proud of all our players this season," said Head Coach Bill Gomoluch, in his second year with the Lady Express. "It's taken a lot of hard work and dedication to go this far and our team has really shown what we can do."

This is the first time in Owens' history that the women's basketball team has gone to nationals.

The Lady Express took second place at the Region 12 Tournament last week in Muskegon, Michigan, beating Kellogg CC 66-46 to advance to the finals, and then being defeated by Macomb CC 69-65. The top two teams from regionals advance to nationals.

The women's team was ranked No. 11 in the nation for the final NJCAA poll of the season. They also were No. 8 nationally in team offense, scoring an average of 80.4 points per game.

The Lady Express has an overall record of 27-6 and took second place in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference with a 12-2 conference record.

With this trip to nationals, all four of Owens' intercollegiate sports teams will have competed in nationals during the past three years.
