English Honor Society.

Joe Sullivan, a Communications/Humanities instructor at Owens, also was inducted into the honor society.
The Theta Alpha chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta was founded at Owens Community College last spring. Owens is one of the few community colleges in the nation with an English honor society. This chapter is one of the charter chapters of Sigma Kappa Delta.
Dr. Steve Culbertson, associate professor of Communications/Humanities at Owens, was instrumental in creating Sigma Kappa Delta. In 1996, he met with several other community college representatives from across the country to organize a new English honor society for two-year colleges.
The goals of the society are to recognize high achievement in English language and literature among two-year college students; to provide cultural stimulation on college campuses and to promote interest in literature and the English language in the surrounding communities; and to exhibit high standards of academic excellence.
The Owens chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta has worked on two fundraising events and is planning involvement in various upcoming campus and community activities.
