Area Student-Athletes Sign to Play Women's Softball at Owens

   Owens Community College is proud to sign eight local women as part of the new intercollegiate women's softball team at the College.

   Michael Rickard, Owens Express athletics coordinator, is serving as the interim head coach until the position is filled. The women's fast-pitch softball team begins play in Spring Semester 1999. The new players are:

   Melinda Kistner, of Weston, a 1997 Otsego High School graduate, where she was First Team All-Wood County and First Team All-SLL. Kistner played first base last spring for the club women's softball team at Owens. She is the daughter of Terry and Aurora Kistner.

   Megan Dukes, of North Baltimore, a 1997 North Baltimore High School graduate, where she was First Team MAL, All-Wood County, First Team All-District and led the MAL in strikeouts with 184 her senior year. She was team captain for two years and was named MVP. She also received the Scholar-Athlete Award in 1996 and 1997. Dukes was a pitcher last spring for the club women's softball team at Owens. She is the daughter of Steve and Jean Dukes.

   Nicole Simon, of Toledo, a 1996 Central Catholic High School graduate, where she was First Team All-State, First Team All-District and First Team All-City. Simon played shortstop last spring for the club women's softball team at Owens. She is the daughter of Michael and Joan Simon.

   Pam Keppler, of Luckey, a 1997 Eastwood High School graduate. Keppler was a pitcher last spring for the club women's softball team at Owens. She is the daughter of Janette Rucki and Richard Keppler.

   Allison Materni, of Toledo, a 1997 Central Catholic High School graduate. Materni played first base last spring for the club women's softball team at Owens. She is the daughter of Julius and Janet Marterni.

   Angela Wiles, of Perrysburg, a 1997 St. Ursula Academy graduate. Wiles was a catcher last spring for the club women's softball team at Owens. She is the daughter of Tom and Genie Wiles.

   Laura Pasko, of Lima, a 1997 Lima Bath High School graduate, where she was Special Mention All-WBL and was first in assists with 85. She is the daughter of Ted and Sandy Pasko.

   Laurey Baer, of Bedford, a 1998 Bedford High School graduate, where she was First Team All-GLL, First Team All-District and named to the Monroe Evening News All-Star Team.She is the daughter of Jim and Deaner Baer.
