Joyce Ellerbrock, R.N., coordinator of health continuing education for the Center for Development and Training (CDT) at Owens Community College, is the recipient of the 1998 Northwest Ohio Gerontological Association Undergraduate Student Scholarship.
"The scholarship committee and board members are quite impressed with your dedication to improving older adults' quality of life and would like to help you in your efforts to complete your education," said Jennifer Kinney, scholarship chairperson.
Ellerbrock teaches allied health classes through CDT to help ensure state endorsements for area nurses, nurse assistants, social workers and health care agency administrators.
Last summer, she was certified in gerontology by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is a 1981 graduate of the St. Vincent School of Nursing and plans to graduate next May from Lourdes College with a bachelor's degree in nursing. Ellerbrock has been listed in the "Who's Who for American Nursing" since 1991.
"I'm very honored by this award," Ellerbrock said. "I enjoy working in the gerontology field and in teaching classes at CDT, I believe it's important to pass on my knowledge and experience to others, especially when it can benefit geriatric patients."
Ellerbrock recently was presented the scholarship at a special banquet hosted by the Northwest Ohio Gerontological Association at the French Quarter, Perrysburg.
