The Owens Community College women's volleyball team took third place
Saturday at the NJCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship, which was
hosted by Owens this year.
The Lady Express defeated Jamestown CC of Jamestown, NY 13-15, 15-11, 15-9 and 15-4 in the consolation round of the tournament.
Owens players named to the All-Tournament Team were: Abby Thompson of North Baltimore, Mackenzie Lehman of Whitehouse and Jill Finnen of Milan.
The College of DuPage of Glen Ellyn, IL defeated Ridgewater College of Willmar, MN in the final round of the championship 16-14, 15-13, 13-15, 7-15 and 15-12.
On Friday, the Lady Express defeated Lehigh Carbon CC of Schnecksville, PA 15-5, 15-0 and 15-5; defeated Hesston College of Hesston, KS 15-11, 15-6 and 15-7; and Owens was defeated by Ridgewater College of Willmar, MN at 15-7, 13-15 and 4-15.
Under Head Coach Fred Aubuchon, the Lady Express volleyball team has traveled to nationals for the past two years, twice taking fifth place. The Lady Express won the state championship October 31 for the first time in Owens history and have an overall record of 28-10.
"We're very pleased and very excited about the outcome today," Aubuchon said. "This is the best any volleyball team has done in Owens' history."
