Owens Honored for Marketing and Public Relations Work

   Owens Community College recently was honored with a number of awards for its outstanding marketing, advertising and public relations efforts.

   Led by the Office of College Relations, the College's efforts garnered nine awards, including three gold, four silver and two bronze - from the National Council of Marketing and Public Relations District III.

   The winners were selected from hundreds of other entries from two-year colleges in the Midwest including Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada.

   Owens received the following awards:

  • a gold award for the Media Success Story "CNN Comes to Owens",
  • a gold award for the Owens alumni newsletter "Focus",
  • a gold award and a silver award for two Feature Articles;
  • a silver award for the 1998-99 College Catalog,
  • a silver award for a folder/brochure for the College's Center for Development and Training,
  • a silver award for the "Owens Year in Review" video,
  • a bronze award for the 1998 Summer class schedule,
  • a bronze award for a TV commercial featuring JL Rollen, advisory board member for the early childhood education program.

   Since becoming a community college in July 1994, the College has been honored regionally and nationally with 36 awards for its marketing, advertising and public relations campaigns by a variety of national and international professional organizations. These efforts have assisted in the College's enrollment increase of nearly 75% in the last four years.

   The Office of College Relations consists of: Cindee Johnson, Executive Director of College Relations; Sandra Fouty, Marketing/Communications Materials Specialist; Beth Church, Public Relations Specialist; Jeff Frye, Graphic Artist; Emily Plow, Graphic Artist, and Mary Burchette, Secretary.
