Owens Express Soccer Players Receive Conference Honors

   Three Owens Community College men's soccer team members have been honored by the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) in the first year of play.

   "This was a very successful first season for us," Head Coach Art Johnson said. "These players worked hard and we are proud that they could be recognized throughout the state for their fine efforts."

   Tom Hudecek of Perrysburg was named First Team All-OCCAC. A 1996 Anthony Wayne High School graduate, he played midfield and forward for the Owens Express and led the team in scoring with 37 shots, 8 goals, 4 assists and he scored 20 points for the season.

   Kent Hertzfeld of Waterville was named Second Team All-OCCAC. A 1996 Anthony Wayne High School graduate, he played midfield for the Owens Express and contributed to the team as a very solid defensive player.

   Al Strzelecki of Rossford was named Second Team All-OCCAC. A 1996 Rossford High School graduate, he was the Owens Express goalie and made 181 saves for the season (85 percent). He also had two shut-out games.

   The Owens Express finished its first season with a 5-11-1 overall record and a 4-6 conference record.
