Owens Findlay Campus Expands Services and Commitment to Community

FINDLAY -_Reinforcing its commitment to serve Hancock County and the surrounding area, Owens Community College is opening a second facility at 1200 Commerce Parkway for the Findlay Campus Center for Development and Training (CDT).

"This new facility is an excellent example of our commitment to serve the workforce training and development needs of business and industry in the community. It certainly will complement the ongoing programs on our Findlay Campus," said President Daniel H. Brown, during a recent meeting of the Owens Community College Board of Trustees at the new facility.

CDT offers a wide variety of programming and customized training geared to the needs of business and industry. "The addition of this building will greatly expand our capacity to train the skilled worker who is in such demand today," said Bill Deffenbaugh, Executive Director of Economic and Workforce Development at Owens.

CDT offers a wide range of computer training and computer-related programming courses, including AutoCAD, CNC operation, basic business computer operations, Windows and Internet classes. CDT also is available for ISO 9000 consulting and customized training options, Deffenbaugh said.

Skilled trades training, also known as apprenticeship training, is one of the strengths of CDT. Most students coming to Owens for skilled trades training currently are employed with companies that are paying their tuition. Skilled trades training takes four years and the required technical classes allow students to complete more than half of an associate degree. Skilled trades classes lead to careers as tool and die makers, machinists, electricians, machine repair, millwrights and more.

The new CDT facility also will be expand the College's efforts in police training. Owens Police Academy classes, sanctioned by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Council, will be offered here, Deffenbaugh said. Also offered on site will be nurse assistant training, upgrade training for nursing home managers, real estate and aftermarket automotive training.

Additionally, the Commerce Parkway facility has rooms available for rental for meetings and other company functions.
