On to Nationals.....
Owens Community College is setting yet another record this season as the first college in Great Lakes Region 12 history to ever send both their men's and women's basketball teams to the NJCAA National Championship.
The Express has a bye in the first round of the nationals and plays in the quarterfinals Thursday, March 18, in Danville, Illinois. This is their fifth trip to nationals during the 1990s: winning the National Championship in '92 and '93, taking second place in '94 and third place in '96. The Express' overall record now is 28-6 and they are nationally ranked No. 4 for the final NJCAA Division II season poll.
The Lady Express, with an overall record of 26-6, take on Northwest-Shoals CC of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, in the first round of the national championship at 12 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, played in Hagerstown, Maryland this year. Northwest-Shoals is the Region 24 champion and was ranked No. 7 nationally -_just above the Lady Express. Last year was the first season the Owens' women's team travelled to nationals, finishing seventh.
