Lori Allison of North Baltimore has been named the recipient of the Dr.
Peggy A. Bensman Nursing Honor Award at Owens Community College. She was
presented the award by Erin Jaynes, assistant professor of nursing, at the
Spring Academic Recognition Brunch.
Allison, who graduated with honors, was one of 534 graduates at Spring Commencement May 18 at Owens Community College.
Jaynes said Allison deserved the honor because of her "academic achievement, leadership within the community, as well as professional leadership."
Allison is a volunteer for the American Red Cross and American Cancer Society. She also volunteers for local community activities and with her church. She plans to continue her education by obtaining a bachelor's of science in nursing and to eventually work in areas where underprivileged people have difficulty obtaining health care.
The prestigious nursing award is named for Dr. Peggy A. Bensman, former Owens Vice President of Academic Affairs and first chair of the Owens School of Nursing.
