Owens Community College has won the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) "All-Sports Award" trophy for the 1998-99 academic year.
"We are very proud of this honor and the fine reflection it is of our outstanding student-athletes and dedicated coaches," said Michael Rickard, Owens Express athletics coordinator.
This year, Owens won a conference title in women's basketball, tied for the championship in volleyball, finished second in the conference in men's basketball, third in softball, fourth in soccer and fifth in baseball.
Based on the conference scoring system of 10 points for a first-place finish, nine for a second, etc., the Express teams finished with an 8.25 average in six sports - better than the eight other colleges in the OCCAC.
Lakeland Community College finished just below Owens with an 8.14 average and Cincinnati State came in third with a 7.8 average.
This is only the second time in Owens history that the College has received the "All-Sports Award" with the previous award for the 1994-95 academic year.
