Owens Express Pitcher Franke Drafted by Anaheim Angels

Aaron Franke, a pitcher for the Owens Community College men's baseball team, has been drafted by the Anaheim Angels and currently is playing for their rookie team in Butte, Montana.

Franke, 6-3, a Clay High School graduate, was selected in the eighth round of the draft.

Franke was named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) "Player of the Year", as well as First Team All-OCCAC and First Team All-Region 12 and this year's team MVP.

He was nationally ranked in two pitching categories: No. 5 for strikeouts leaders among the NJCAA's Division III teams, setting an Owens record for 79 strikeouts in a season, and No. 3 for his earned run average per game of .94, which also set an Owens record. The Express had an overall record of 21-24 this year.

Franke is the first baseball player in Owens history to be selected in the draft.
