The Owens Community College Board of Trustees has declared Wednesday, September 8 as "Literacy Day" at the College.
"Owens Community College has always been in the forefront in providing developmental reading instruction...and a leader in providing training for early childhood education," the trustees' resolution states.
The trustees emphasized the College's commitment to the education of Ohio youth, especially through its associate degrees in elementary and secondary education.
"Owens recognizes its responsibility as an educational leader to the literacy of area young people," the trustees' resolution states.
"Literacy Day" is being held in conjunction with the "Ohio Reads" program promoted by Governor Bob Taft. Campus events will include a number of a faculty, administrators and students reading to children.
