For the fourth consecutive year, the Owens Community College women's
volleyball team has earned a bid to the NJCAA Division 3 National Championship
- and again will host the event, welcoming the top eight teams from across the
The Lady Express - ranked No. 6 in the nation for Division III colleges - defeated Butler Community College 15-7, 15-11 and 15-8 Saturday for the District 7 Championship. Led by Head Coach Fred Aubuchon, Owens has an overall record of 28-14.
The National Championship pool play matches in Alumni Hall begin Friday, November 12 at 11 a.m., continuing at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, November 13 matches will continue at 11 a.m., with the consolation match at 1:30 p.m. and the championship at 4 p.m.
Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under. A two-day pass is $6. Admission is free with an Owens student ID.
The top seven other teams from the national districts of Division 3 will come to the Owens Toledo-area Campus to play in the National Championships. Those teams are: Richland College of Dallas, Texas; Hesston College of Hesston, Kansas; Jamestown Community College of Jamestown, New York; Lehigh Carbon Community College of Schnecksville, Pennsylvania; Bronx Community College of Bronx, New York; and Vermilion Community College of Ely, Minnesota .
This is the second year for Owens to host the National Championships. The Lady Express volleyball team took third place at nationals last year.
