Owens Soccer Players Receive Regional, Conference Honors

  Four Owens Community College men's soccer team members have been honored by the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and the NJCAA's Great Lakes Region 12.

  "These players worked hard and we are proud that they could be recognized throughout the state and the region for their fine efforts," Head Coach Art Johnson said.

  Dan Pietraszak of Swanton and a St. Francis High School graduate, was named All-OCCAC and All-Region. He is the Owens Express goalie and also was named MVP by Johnson.

  Kent Hertzfeld of Waterville and an Anthony Wayne High School graduate, was named All-OCCAC and All-Region. A fullback, he also was named Defensive MVP by Johnson.

  Nick Lukachek of Waterville and an Anthony Wayne High School graduate, was named All-OCCAC and All-Region. He is a midfielder for the Express.

  Hamid Hamdin of Ethiopia was named All-Region. A midfielder, he also was named Offensive MVP by Johnson.

  The Owens Express finished its first season with a 9-9-1 overall record and a 4-5-1 conference record. They also earned a trip to the Regional 12 Championship for the first time in Owens history.
