Owens Community College to Host National Computer Software Conference

Your Success Starts Here More than 400 administrative faculty and staff from Midwest colleges and universities will gather to discuss the innovative future of computer information systems related to higher education at the Midwest Banner Users Conference hosted by Owens Community College, Thursday and Friday, November 15-16.

The Midwest Banner Users Group consists of nearly 50 colleges and universities, from Michigan to Georgia, who use the Banner systems software. Created by Systems Computer Technology (SCT), the Banner systems is a group of related programs designed to allow for a cooperative interaction of data among various departments and offices, which include Advising, Alumni Development, Financial Aid, Human Resources, Student Registration/Records and Admissions.

Located in Malvern, Pennsylvania, SCT has been a provider of higher education computer systems for nearly 20 years. The organization also develops software designed for the government and companies within the business industry.

"Owens Community College is at the forefront as a leader and supporter of the Banner system," said Gene Burson, Owens Manager of Systems Development. "The College was one of the first schools in Ohio to install the current server-based educational program in 1998. Student data is now very accessible to every office on campus."

The two-day conference will feature many informative sessions from Owens administrative staff, SCT consultants and various companies within the computer industry, as well as presentations by colleagues from current Banner schools. Topics discussed will include financial aid, finance, human resources payroll, student accounts receivable and Web products.

Last year, more than 350 individuals attended the Midwest Banner Users Conference at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

A member of the Midwest Banner Users Group since 1998, Owens Community College also has hosted the Ohio Banner Users Conference.
