Owens Community College Foundation Awards Student Scholarships

Scholarships have been awarded to 62 Owens Community College students from the Owens State Community College Foundation for 2001-2002 academic year.

"Owens Community College is very proud of these students for their dedication to the highest academic and leadership standards while pursuing their college education," said Dr. Christa Adams, President of Owens Community College. "They serve as role models and positive influences for this College as they aspire to become the future educators, health care professionals, technologists, business leaders and professionals of tomorrow."

The Owens State Community College Foundation offers more than 25 scholarships to new and continuing students, which are made available through the generosity of area businesses and individuals in the community. More than $35,000 was awarded to scholarship recipients this year.

Annabelle Kinney, RN Annual Nursing Scholarship: Lesli Coombes of Rossford received a $200 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in the Owens Registered Nursing Program, a resident of Wood County and show a commitment to the nursing profession.

Anthony Wayne Business and Professional Women's Scholarship: Marcia Van Dusen of Whitehouse received a $150 scholarship. Recipients must reside in or be a graduate of the Anthony Wayne School District.

Central West Area Council Scholarship: Ruby Lee of Toledo received a $1,000 scholarship. Recipients must reside in the Central West Area of Toledo, pursuing an associate degree and achieve a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

Corporate Partners Scholarships: Recipients must be a graduate of a high school or employee of a business in Lucas, Wood, Hancock, Ottawa, Sandusky or contiguous counties and enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours. Commercial Savings ­ Michelle Reed of Findlay received a $500 scholarship. Findlay Publishing ­ Tracy Foltz of Arlington received a $200 scholarship. GSW Manufacturing ­ Courtney Jones of Carey received a $100 scholarship. PPG ­ Garrett Alexander of Curtice, Benjamin Busick of Perrysburg, Loren Cooley of Toledo and Kristopher Lieber of Toledo each received a $375 scholarship. Stall & Associates ­ Angela Nalle of Fostoria received a $100 scholarship.

Crime Stoppers of Findlay/Hancock County Scholarship: Amanda Altman of Findlay received a $500 scholarship. Recipients must be a Hancock County resident, a second-year Owens student in the Criminal Justice Program and have a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Don Brondes Memorial Scholarship: Kyle Phillips of Blissfield, Michigan, received a $400 scholarship. Recipients must be majoring in Automotive Technologies, enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Edward and Linda Reiter Scholarships: Ruth Martinez of Sandusky and Kristy Redford of Toledo each received a $250 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in a technology associate degree program, have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.

Ford Scholarships: Susan Abrell of Toledo and Linda Napier of Swanton each received a $900 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in 12 credit hours at Owens, and is primarily for women and minorities, Ford employees, their spouses and their children.

Glass City AMC Club Scholarship: Kyle Phillips of Blissfield, Michigan, received a $500 scholarship. Recipients must be majoring in Automotive Technologies, has completed at least 12 hours in an Automotive-related major and must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative Scholarships: Tracy Foltz of Arlington, Charles Meyer of Arcadia and Nathan Thomas of Mt. Cory each received a $200 scholarship. Recipients must be a member of the Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative, reside within the Hancock or Wood counties, or be a child of an Electric Cooperative member and maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA.

John and Margaret Kurfess Scholarship: Kristy Redford of Toledo received a $100 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in a Health Technologies Program, completed 16 credit hours at Owens prior to receiving the scholarship and have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.

John Deere Agricultural Equipment Scholarships: Zachary Coe of Perrysburg, Darin Hill of Zanesville, Matt Kessler of Walbridge, Chad Spiker of Perrysburg and Clayton Waddle of Washington Court House each received a $600 scholarship. Scholarship criteria is based on academics and financial need, as well as recipients being enrolled in the John Deere Agricultural Equipment Program.

Jones-Hamilton Co. Scholarship: Monica Lau of Northwood received a $900 scholarship. Recipients must reside in Lake Township, Perrysburg Township, Rossford or Northwood, majoring in a chemistry- or engineering-related program and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Owens Community College Marketing and Sales Scholarship: Olaida Algarin of Curtice received a $300 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in Marketing and Sales Technology, Retailing Management or Financial Services Sales and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Mosser Construction Inc. Scholarship: Steve Reed of Blissfield, Michigan, received a $750 scholarship. Recipients must be a new student at Owens, enrolled in the Architectural Construction Engineering Technology Program and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Pauline Schmidt Memorial Scholarship: Sarah McKeen of Leipsic received a $250 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in the Dental Hygiene Program, is based on financial need and have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Rich Harmon Memorial Scholarship: Charles Meyer of Arcadia received a $400 scholarship. Recipients must be a second-year student in the Quality Assurance Engineering Technologies Program, have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA and exhibits a strong desire to pursue a Quality Assurance career in manufacturing.

Ruth L. Kelly Scholarships: Brandy Busdeker of Toledo, Kimberly Drealan of Newport, Michigan, Lisa Raitz of Tiffin and Desiree Shumaker of Tiffin each received a $625 scholarship. Recipients must be an Owens Nursing student in the second, third or fourth semester, and is based on academic achievement in Nursing courses and financial need.

Sandra Cluckey Memorial Scholarship: Sarah McKeen of Leipsic received a $250 scholarship. Recipients must be a second-year Dental Hygiene student, have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA and is based on financial need.

Staff-Sponsored Scholarships for Student Employees: Jeremiah Seip of Perrysburg and Amee Rosenberger of Walbridge each received a $250 scholarship. Recipients must be a student employee who has completed at least one semester of on-campus employment, is working at least 10 hours per week and for the entire semester the award is applied. The scholarships also are based on financial need, as well as students maintaining a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Steven Scott Doneff Memorial Scholarship: Laura Danko of Toledo received a $500 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in at least six credit hours at Owens, maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and is based on financial need.

Toledo Community Foundation­Marsh Family Fund Scholarship: Jennifer Barto of Toledo received a $400 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours per semester and have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Toledo Community Foundation­George and Luella Shoemaker Fund: Aqil Al-nassery of Toledo, Andrea Anderson of Toledo, Rhonda Barch of Perrysburg, Mary Bouyer of Toledo, Shannon Brown of Toledo, Lesli Coombes of Rossford, Kristen Donnelly of Oregon, Wendy Easler of Toledo, Jamie Eisenbrandt of Perrysburg, Orah Harsh of Oregon, Brenda Killian of Toledo, Nicholas Loudenslager of Toledo, David Moore of Toledo and Cynthia Wills of Perrysburg each received a $500 scholarship. Recipients must reside in the Greater Toledo Area (Lucas County and contiguous communities, as well as Monroe, Michigan), enrolled in a technology program and maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Toledo Automobile Dealers Association Scholarships: Gerald Mason of Toledo and Kyle Phillips of Blissfield, Michigan, each received a $500 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in Diesel or Automotive Technologies, have a minimum 2.4 cumulative GPA and is based on financial need.

Toledo Mobile Radio Association Scholarship: Kristopher Lieber of Toledo received a $500 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in an Electrical Engineering and Technologies Program or a related field of study.

TRW Foundation Scholarships: Rhonda Barch of Perrysburg, Kerri Egan of Toledo, Carolyn Gregory of Maumee, Lorina Pinkelman of Bowling Green and Lisa Shaw of Holland each received a $1,000 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours each semester, have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and is based on financial need.

UPS Scholarships: Sandra Clevidence of Toledo, Gayla Coleman of Bowling Green, Theresa Crawford of Toledo, Ross Langendorfer of Whitehouse, Kimberly Schaefer of Toledo, Jeremiah Seip of Perrysburg, Rachael Takacs of Perrysburg, Mickey Ward of Sylvania and Joanne Zeadker of Delta each received a $500 scholarship. Recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours each semester and have a minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA.
