Linda Stacy, interim Executive Director of Economic and Workforce Development at Owens Community College, has been elected President of the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE).
With 700 members from 40 nations, AAACE is the leading organization dedicated to enhancing the field of adult learning. Members come from higher education, business, labor, military and government. AAACE publishes two periodicals in education and training: Adult Learning magazine and a scholarly journal, Adult Education Quarterly.
"This is a wonderful honor for me to be selected by my peers to lead this organization helping adults acquire the knowledge, skills and values needed to lead productive and satisfying lives," Stacy said. "Adult education and lifelong learning are a primary mission for Owens Community College and we are dedicated to providing such opportunities to everyone in our community."
Stacy, of Sylvania, was elected to the position at AAACE's recent national meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition, Vicki Henery, a Secretary for Workforce Development at Owens, was installed as Secretary of AAACE.
Stacy has worked at Owens Community College since 1986 and earned bachelor's, master's and education specialist degrees from the University of Toledo.
At Owens, she manages the College's Center for Development and Training, which provides credit and non-credit training, workforce development, continuing education and adult education programs. She works with area businesses and industries to determine training needs in diverse areas, such as workplace literacy, computer applications, manufacturing, supervision, truck driving and more.
Stacy served as the chair of AAACE's national conference in 1997 and 1999. She was selected as the "Northwest Ohio Administrator of the Year" in 1989 by the Ohio Association for Adult and Continuing Education. She served as president of the Ohio Association for Adult and Continuing Education from 1991 to 1993.
