Nearly 600 junior high and high school students from the Toledo Public Schools visited Owens Community College recently as the College hosted "Post-Secondary Career Exploration Day". Co-sponsored by Owens Community College, Toledo Public Schools and Bowling Green State University's Project F.E.E.D. (Future Educators Enhancing Diversity), the Exploration Day exposed students to higher education and a variety of career opportunities, as well as providing them with helpful guidance about making life choices.
During the event, students had the opportunity to tour the Owens campus and learn about the more than 100 career-oriented programs and majors offered in Agriculture, Business, Health, Public Service, Skilled Trades and Industrial and Engineering Technologies. Career professionals from approximately 40 Northwest Ohio businesses, educational institutions and government agencies were on hand to answer questions about their professions and advise students how to begin choosing a career. Among the businesses and organizations in attendance were Buckeye Cable System, Charter One Bank, Flower Hospital, Radisson Hotel of Toledo, TARTA, The Andersons Inc., Toledo Public Aviation Center, the U.S. Army and Air Force and more.
