Owens Community College Registered Nursing students recently gained clinical experience giving flu and pneumonia vaccination shots to Northwest Ohio communities as part of "Shoo the Flu". Sponored by the Pharm, The Visiting Nurse Hospice & Health Care, Star 105 FM and Food Town, the event gave first and second semester students in Nursing Skills (NRS 122) and Adult Health Issues I (NRS 123), from the Owens Toledo-area and Findlay campuses, the opportunity to fulfill course requirements and refine their nursing skills.

"Shoo the Flu is a wonderful service-learning opportunity for Owens students to interact and provide a much needed service to Northwest Ohio residents," said Dawn Wetmore, Owens Chair of Nursing and Surgical Technologies. "The communities benefit because it is a wellness initiative provided by skilled Owens nursing students."

Among the communities where Owens nursing students volunteered their time included Toledo, Swanton, Tiffin, Waterville, Sylvania, Perrysburg and Northwood.
