Owens Community College Selects New Vice President of College Advancement

Your Success Starts Here Gary Dettling, Vice President of College Advancement

Owens Community College has named Gary Dettling as the new Vice President of College Advancement to oversee fundraising, marketing, public relations and web development.

"Owens is the fastest-growing college of its classification in the nation and Gary is the best college advancement professional I know. I believe this is a perfect match," said Owens President, Dr. Christa Adams. "Owens Community College is just waiting for his leadership, energy and vision."

Since August 2000, Dettling has served as the Dean of College Advancement at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, MI, where Dr. Adams was president until last summer when she was named president of Owens Community College.

Dettling said he sees the new position as a unique opportunity to put the expertise he developed at St. Clair to work on a larger scale at Owens.

"I believe there is great potential for Owens to enhance its community involvement and establish new partnerships with the strengthening of the Owens State Community College Foundation," Dettling said.

At St. Clair, Dettling consolidated fundraising, marketing, public relations and web development and enrollment for winter 2002 currently is up 17 percent. He initiated an annual giving campaign, established teaching and learning endowments, and increased membership in the alumni association.

Other highlights during his past 16 months at St. Clair include bringing in Chuck Conaway, CEO of the Kmart Corp., to address the 2001 graduating class and raising capital gifts for the Citizens First Michigan Technical Education Center that opened in Summer 2001.

He begins his new position at Owens February 18. He and his wife, Erica, live in Maumee with their daughter, Sophie.
