Owens Community College continues to pave the way in marketing higher
education at an award-winning level. The College recently was honored for
marketing excellence among Midwest community colleges within a five state
region and Canada for its collaborative print advertisement with Lourdes
The print advertisement, titled "The Power of Two", depicts Owens Community College President Dr. Christa E. Adams and Lourdes College President Dr. George C. Matthews riding a tandem bicycle. With a theme of "Together We're Stronger", the advertisement emphasizes the importance of collaboration between two-year community colleges and four-year institutions.
"The joint marketing efforts between Owens Community College and Lourdes College is a reflection of our commitment to supporting the educational needs of our students and area residents throughout Northwest Ohio," said Christa Adams, Ph.D., President of Owens Community College. "Owens' partnership with Lourdes and other four-year colleges and universities are crucial in heightening our College's mission of providing access to quality higher education."
President Adams added, "We look forward to strengthening our collaborative efforts with area colleges and universities while further developing transfer agreements with four-year institutions."
Enabling students to pursue additional learning opportunities, Owens Community College has established transfer agreements with colleges and universities throughout Northwest Ohio and beyond. Approximately 35 percent of the College's nearly 18,500 students enrolled this fall on the Toledo-area and Findlay-area Campuses intend on transferring to a four-year institution.
"Collaborative efforts such as the seamless articulation agreement with Owens greatly enhance the opportunities for student success," said Dr. George C. Matthews, President of Lourdes College. "The award-winning advertisement not only captured this collaborative spirit but also provided a clear direction for students to follow in successfully navigating their programs of study at Owens and Lourdes."
"The Power of Two" print advertisement received a Gold Medallion Award for excellence in community college marketing. A panel of 14 judges from the National Council on Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) selected Owens Community College's print advertisement among entries from five states and Ontario, Canada. The honor marks the first time the College has received a Gold Medallion Award within the category of Print Advertisement, Single Ad.
"Recognition from NCMPR for this collaborative print advertisement between Owens Community College and Lourdes College is a milestone within higher education marketing," said Jennifer Fehnrich, Owens Director of Public Relations and Marketing. "Forming partnerships between two-year community colleges and four-year institutions is a unique and highly effective marketing tool to promote excellence in education."
Fehnrich added, "Working closely with vendors to display this unique partnership has added significantly to our success. 'The Power of Two' will again appear in The Blade as a full-color, full-page advertisement on Sunday, October 28."
The Medallion Awards recently were presented at the annual NCMPR District III conference held in Dayton, Ohio. Awards were given to community colleges from Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada, which comprise the District III region.
Established in 1992 by NCMPR, the Medallion Awards recognize outstanding achievements in marketing and communications for community, junior and technical college professionals. Medallion Awards are presented within each of the seven respective districts of NCMPR.
