Four Owens Community College baseball players have received top honors from the
Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC).
Freshman Pitcher Ryan Clark (North Baltimore High School) was named OCCAC "Player of the Year", as well as First Team All-OCCAC.
Clark is ranked No. 3 nationally in the NJCAA for earned run average at 1.58. He pitched 57 innings and allowed only 42 hits. He struck out 62 and walked just 17. His record is 5-3. In the OCCAC, Clark posted a perfect 5-0 record with a 1.15 ERA. He struck out 51 and walked just 10 in 39 innings.
At North Baltimore High School, he was three-time All-MAL, MAL Player of the Year and a two-time Wood County All-Star.
Freshman third baseman Eric McDaniel (Genoa High School) also was named First Team All-OCCAC. He tied at No. 7 nationally in the NJCAA for home run leaders with 10, setting an Owens record. McDaniel is third among conference players with a .432 batting average (19-for-44). He also tied for third in the conference in RBIs with 15.
Sophomore outfielder Justin Guerrero (Clay High School) and sophomore pitcher Jason Wanner (Start High School) also were named First Team All-OCCAC. In the conference, Guerrero batted .342 and Wanner posted a 3-0 record with a 2.2 ERA.
The Express had an overall record of 30-22 this year - the best finish for any team in Owens baseball history. They placed first in the conference and won the NJCAA Region 12 Championship by defeating Columbus State CC for the first time in three years. They were defeated in the District B Championship by Joliet Junior College and lost the chance to advance to the NJCAA Division 3 World Series in Batavia, NY.
