Owens Volleyball Wins Regular Season & Tourney OCCAC Championships

Owens Community College women's volleyball has captured its second consecutive Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) regular season and tournament championships, finishing with an overall 15-0 conference record (OCCAC regular season and tournament matches).

This marks the second consecutive year Owens has won the regular season conference with an undefeated record and won the season-ending conference tournament.

The Lady Express this past weekend defeated Terra Community College 30-22 & 30-23 and Lakeland Community College 30-20 & 30-7. In the finals they defeated Lakeland 30-15, 30-25, 30-32 & 30-22 to win the OCCAC volleyball tournament championship.

Led by first year Head Coach Sonny Lewis, the Lady Express finished the regular season with 35-10 record and are ranked No. 9 nationally in this week's NJCAA Women's Volleyball poll. This weekend (Friday-Saturday, November 2-3) they will look to advance to the NJCAA National Championships hosted by Owens Community College as the volleyball team plays in the Region XII Championships in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The OCCAC also has announced regular and postseason honors. Among the Lady Express volleyball players receiving awards include:

  • Player of the Year - Cindy Missler of Toledo (Start High School)
  • All-Conference Team - Cindy Missler, Sandra Peer of Northwood (Clay High School) and Dana Juhnke of Holland (Notre Dame Academy)
  • All-Conference Team Honorable Mention - April Gladieux of Perrysburg (Rossford High School)
  • All-Tournament Team - Sandra Peer, Cindy Missler and Stacy Schwierking of Oregon (Clay High School)
