Owens Hosts NJCAA Women's Volleyball Nationals, Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 8-10 Owens Community College is set to host the NJCAA Women's Volleyball National Championships this week, welcoming the top 10 Division II teams from across the country.
"We are honored to host this championship and invite the community to see student-athletes from throughout the United States here for some tough competition," said Michael Rickard, Owens Express Athletic Director.
The event begins with Opening Ceremonies at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, with pool play matches starting at 12 p.m., continuing at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. On Friday, November 9, pool play continues with matches at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. On Saturday, November 10, the semi-final matches will be at 10 a.m., with the consolation match at 12 p.m. and the championship at 2 p.m. All matches will be played in the College's Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC).
"This is the fourth year for Owens to host the National Championships," Rickard said. "The event has been very successful the past three years and the College is excited to once again serve as the venue for such a prestigious tournament."
Owens hosted the previous three Division III volleyball championships. This past year, the NJCAA awarded the College a four-year contract to host the Division II national volleyball tournament.

The top 10 teams from the national districts of Division II are St. Clair County Community College of Port Huron, Michigan; Northwest-Shoals Community College of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; Kishwaukee Community College of Malta, Illinois; Kirkwood Community College of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Parkland College of Champaign, Illinois; Kellogg Community College of Battle Creek, Michigan; North Dakota State College of Science of Wahpeton, North Dakota; Genesee Community College of Batavia, New York; Moraine Valley Community College of Palos Hills, Illinois, and Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville, of Catonsville, Maryland.
The Lady Express volleyball team completed their season this past weekend finishing third at the Region XII Championships, coming within one win of advancing to the NJCAA National Championships. They defeated Cuyahoga Community College 30-13, 30-17 & 30-14; were defeated by Schoolcraft College 30-16, 30-19 & 30-21, and defeated Mott Community College 30-27, 30-21 & 30-18 and Lakeland Community College 30-21, 30-25 & 30-18. In their third consolation match, the Lady Express again were defeated by Schoolcraft 30-20, 30-22 & 30-24. They finished the season with a 38-12 record.
