Owens Community College women's volleyball player Cindy Missler of Toledo has been named Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American.

The award was announced at the College's fall athletic banquet for women's volleyball and men's soccer.

This is the sixth consecutive year that at least one Owens volleyball player has received All-American honors. Missler's other honors included Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) "Player of the Year", NJCAA All-Region XII and team co-captain, as well as Owens Most Valuable Player. In addition, she also was named to the OCCAC, NJCAA Region XII and College of DuPage All-Tournament Teams.

Missler, a sophomore middle back and outside hitter from Start High School, also broke the Owens volleyball career record for kills, with 451, which was previously held by All-American Jaime Banners.

Led by first year Head Coach Sonny Lewis, the Lady Express completed their season with a 38-12 record. The program captured its second consecutive OCCAC regular season and tournament championships, finishing with an overall 15-0 conference record (OCCAC regular season and tournament matches). Ranked as high as No. 9 nationally in the NJCAA Women's Volleyball poll, the Lady Express came within one win of advancing to the NJCAA National Championships finishing third at the Region XII Championships.

The men's soccer program, led by Head Coach Art Johnson, recently completed its fourth season as an Owens athletic program, finishing with 12-8 overall record and a 7-3 mark (second place) in the OCCAC. Both win totals are the highest in the program's short history. For the second consecutive year, the Express had the OCCAC's leading goal scorer. Freshman forward, Sean Brown of Perrysburg, led the league with 26 goals and is a nominee for All-American honors, which will be announced later this year. In 2000, Fabio Cardoso of Maumee, led the conference with 23 goals.
