Owens Express Hold Cheerleading Tryouts

Interested student-athletes are invited to the open tryouts for the Owens Community College cheerleading and dance team Monday-Friday, April 22-26 at the College's Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) on the Toledo-area Campus, Oregon Road.

Tryouts will be held each evening from 6-9 p.m.

Led by first-year Cheerleading and Dance Team Head Coach Tracy Reitz, the Owens Express cheerleading and dance team is a cheer/dance mounting squad, which performs halftime routines and sideline chants and cheers during the men's basketball games.

During this past year, the Owens Cheerleading and Dance team participated in the Midwest Open Championships in Columbus and placed second in the competition, finishing behind the University of Findlay.

Teams competing in the NCAA Division II and NJCAA Community College division included Ohio Dominican College, Columbus State Community College, University of Findlay and University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg.

"Each team performed a two-minute 30-second routine, which included a cheer, chant and dance segment," Reitz said. "I am very proud of our cheerleading and dance team and the accomplishments we have had this season. I expect the team to continue to improve and build upon this past year's success."

For more information on open tryouts, call Coach Reitz at (567) 343-0537 or (567) 661-7935.
