Owens Community College Unveils New Center for Fine and Performing Arts At Media Preview Night, July 31
Members of the media are invited to preview the new $11 million Center for Fine and Performing Arts as Owens Community College hosts Media Preview Night on Thursday, July 31.
The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with welcoming remarks by Owens Community College Board of Trustees Chair Jack Sculfort, Provost Dr. Paul Unger and Vice President of College Advancement Gary Dettling in the Center's Mainstage Theatre. Dr. Brian Bethune, Owens Chair of Fine and Performing Arts, will follow the welcoming remarks with a brief presentation about the new facility and its many program offerings.
The Media Preview Night will continue, from 7:10-8 p.m., with private tours and demonstrations highlighted by Owens faculty showcasing the Mainstage Theatre, music lecture facility, graphic design classroom, drawing studio, digital photography and photography labs, theatre control room, dance studio and the Terhune Exhibition Gallery. The tours and demonstrations will provide members of the media a chance to experience the varied capabilities and important features of this new complex, which encompasses 74,396 square-feet and is dedicated to the liberal arts instruction.
Throughout the evening, members of the media also will have the opportunity to conduct one-on-one interviews with Owens Community College officials regarding the new Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
Owens' new Center for Fine and Performing Arts opens its doors this coming Fall Semester and houses 19 new degree and certificate program areas. Among the new academic program offerings available to students are Commercial Art, Dance, Fine Art, Interior Design, Music, Photography and Theatre.
The state-of-the-art facility also will feature a 500-seat theatre, 50-seat music hall and studio theatre, student exhibit galleries, art and design studios for graphic design, commercial art, painting, ceramics and sculpture, as well as acoustic laboratories for the instruction of dance, piano, vocal and instrumental music, and practice rooms.
The Center for Fine and Performing Arts is the final structure of the Galleria Complex, which began in 1996 and includes the Library, Audio/Visual Classroom Center, Math/Science Center and the Student Health and Activities Center.
