Owens Community College continues to heighten its educational opportunities by naming 10 of the College's alumni to serve as Board of Directors on the new Alumni Association. The Board of Directors and officers were appointed to their new positions during a recent organizational meeting.

The new board members and officers include: Janet Meacham of Rossford (President), Michael Rickard of Toledo (Vice President), Debbie Green of Graytown (Secretary), Susan Litten of Maumee (Treasurer), Angela Jackson of Toledo, Kaye Koevenig of Toledo, Jolene Poeschl of Bowling Green, Rob Robincheck of Port Clinton, Frank Weaver of Toledo and Laura Moore of Perrysburg.

"Bringing Owens Community College alumni together is the heart of the Association's mission and identity," said Janet Meacham, Owens President of the Alumni Association. "The establishment of the College's new Alumni Association is a wonderful opportunity for alumni to renew friendships, as well as build upon Owens' educational tradition by assisting current and future students in pursuit of their career aspirations."

The overall mission of the Alumni Association and its Board of Directors is to engage alumni and students in programs, events and services that energize interest, build loyalty and strengthen support of the College.

Since opening its doors in 1965, Owens Community College has provided higher education to more than 250,000 students. Owens' new Alumni Association is committed to the personal and professional success of alumni and students through the ongoing development of value-added initiatives. Among the initial activities of the new Board of Directors will be to cultivate membership and craft a comprehensive strategic plan based on membership's interests and desires.

Owens' Alumni Association is open to all graduates or students who have successfully completed any credit or non-credit course at the College. New members will have the opportunity to participate in the organization's annual Golf Classic, attend Open House activities and serve as mentors to current students as well as fellow alums. In addition, the Association is planning a Campus Reunion for alumni who attended the Findlay-area Campus. The reunion will occur during the same day as the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Findlay-area Campus on Thursday, September 25.

"Owens Community College has assembled an outstanding group of leaders who value the importance of a high quality college education and the many benefits of lifelong learning," said Laura Moore, Owens Manager of Alumni Affairs. "The individual board members bring a wealth of knowledge to the organization. Their experiences will further assist in raising awareness of the Alumni Association and the role it plays in nurturing the relationship of the College with our current students, our alumni, friends of Owens and our local community."
