Owens Community College Hosts Express Softball Camp, Feb. 28

Owens Community College will offer area softball players the opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of the sport as the College hosts a one-day Express Softball Camp on Saturday, February 28.

The softball camp will run from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the College's Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road, four miles from Downtown Toledo.

Camp instructors will include Owens Express Head Coach Duane Lanham and Assistant Coach Joe Boise, as well as the current women's softball team. Youth ages 8-18 will receive instruction on softball skills, which will include an evaluation of each player's hitting and fielding techniques. In addition, attendees will learn about custom exercises for softball and gain tips on improving hitting, pitching and fielding.

The Express women's softball team this past year completed their best season in program history, finishing with a 41-14 overall record. They also captured their third consecutive Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) regular season championship with an 18-2 mark. In addition, Owens was ranked as high as No. 18 nationally in the NJCAA Division II Women's Softball regular season poll.

Parents and coaches are invited to attend the camp to listen and observe at no additional charge.

The camp fee is only $45 and all participants will receive an Owens Express T-shirt. For more information, or to register, call (567) 661-7937 or 1-800- GO-OWENS, Ext. 7937.
