"Women's Heart Advantage is a great opportunity for women of all ages to take advantage of health services and advice being offered by Northwest Ohio's premiere health care community," said Janell Lang, Owens Dean of Health Technologies. "Heart disease is our nation's number one killer for women. An event such as Women's Heart Advantage is just one of the many ways to combat the disease by raising awareness through cardiovascular education."
Owens faculty and students and health care professionals will offer a wide variety of educational programs throughout the day, highlighting women's heart health and risk concerns. Breakout session topics will include depression, hormone therapy, nutrition, dental hygiene and exercise, and their relationships to heart disease.
Respected cardiologist Daniel Cassavar, M.D., from ProMedica Health System will address Women's Heart Advantage attendees at 10:30 a.m. The focus of his keynote address will offer insight into women's heart disease symptoms and risk factors.
In addition, free blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings will be available to all participants, as well as literature related to heart disease. Individuals also can attend a free CPR class, beginning at 9 a.m., for which registration is required.
The Women's Heart Advantage event is a collaboration among Owens Community College, ProMedica Health System, the American Heart Association of Greater Toledo and Pfizer Inc.
