Owens Community College Hosts Battle of the Bands Concert, Saturday, April 17

A fun evening of entertainment is in store for music lovers as the Owens Community College hosts the Third Annual Battle of the Bands Concert on Saturday, April 17.

Sponsored by the Owens Student Government, UPS and WIOT 104.7 FM, the event will run from 7-11 p.m. in the College's Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road, four miles from Downtown Toledo. Admission to the concert is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

"Battle of the Bands is a great night of entertainment for any individual who enjoys music," said Teresa Pangle, Owens Student Government President. "Owens Student Government is excited to once again host an event which recognizes local musical talent for their hard work and dedication."

Six bands will be featured, playing a wide array of music ranging from rock to rhythm n' blues throughout the evening. Each band will play for approximately 20 minutes with a 15-minute break to follow each set. Among the bands are the Kalabo Krew, DraMatique & BenFlowz, CatchPole, Recoil 5, Amanna 18 and the Hotdog Pie. The opening act will be performed by the Terrance Jones Project.

At the conclusion of the concert a grand prize in the amount of $400 will be awarded to the musical group honored as the Best Band for the evening. The winning band also will have one song played on WIOT and be interviewed live on the air.

In addition to the concert, individuals will have the opportunity to purchase participating bands' various CDs and other merchandise.

More than 300 people attended last year's event. For more information, call (567) 661-7934 or 1-800-GO-OWENS, Ext. 7934.
