Owens Community College Student-Athletes Named Academic All-Conference

Thirty-two Owens Community College student-athletes have received Academic All-Conference Honors by the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) in recognition of their scholarly achievements for the 2003-04 academic year.

"Owens Community College is extremely proud of our student-athletes who have demonstrated superior excellence in academics as well as athleticism," said Michael Rickard, Owens Coordinator of Student Enrichment and Athletics. "Their success as scholars is a positive reflection on each athletic program and dedication shown toward educational values."

Selection criterion for the honored recipients is based upon achieving a minimum 3.3 grade point average.

Owens has been a member of the OCCAC for the past 17 years. The nine other member schools comprising the OCCAC are Clark State Community College, Cincinnati State Community College, Columbus State Community College, Cuyahoga Community College, Edison State Community College, Lakeland Community College, Sinclair Community College, Southern State Community College and Terra Community College.

Student-athletes receiving Academic All-Conference honors include:

  • Michelle Brose of Tiffin, a Mohawk High School graduate (Softball) with a 3.64 grade point average.
  • Niccole Brown of Toledo, a Toledo Central Catholic High School graduate (Women's Basketball) with a 3.30 grade point average.
  • Courtney Caldwell of Lambertville, Mich., a Bedford High School graduate (Volleyball) with a 3.38 grade point average.
  • Kyle Cousino of Toledo, a Whitmer High School graduate (Soccer) with a 3.62 grade point average.
  • Amy Czupich of Temperance, Mich., a Bedford High School graduate (Volleyball) with a 3.54 grade point average.
  • Monica Decker of Toledo, a Toledo Central Catholic High School graduate (Softball) with a 3.69 grade point average.
  • Jeremy Diekman of Martin, a Genoa High School graduate (Men's Basketball) with a 3.53 grade point average.
  • Adam Dunn of Toledo, a Whitmer High School graduate (Baseball) with a 3.70 grade point average.
  • Caroline Eboumbou of Paris, France, a Lycé Jean Zay High School graduate (Women's Basketball) with a 3.55 grade point average.
  • Melissa Fleig of Toledo, a Springfield High School graduate (Volleyball) with a 3.54 grade point average.
  • Margot Frederick of Genoa, a Genoa High School graduate (Volleyball) with a 3.72 grade point average.
  • Sarah Johnson of Sylvania, a Northview High School graduate (Women's Basketball) with a 3.63 grade point average.
  • Kyle Leppelmeier of Edgerton, an Edgerton High School graduate (Baseball) with a 3.87 grade point average.
  • Isaac Metcalf of Waterville, a Perrysburg High School graduate (Soccer) with a 3.61 grade point average.
  • April Nietrzeba of Maumee, a Maumee High School graduate (Softball) with a 3.33 grade point average.
  • Dave Quiroga of Toledo, a Waite High School graduate (Baseball) with a 3.31 grade point average.
  • Heather Peer of Ypsilanti, Mich., a Huron High School graduate (Women's Basketball) with a 3.78 grade point average.
  • Zachary Pettee of Holland, a St. John's Jesuit High School graduate (Baseball) with a 3.61 grade point average.
  • Sammantha Schneider of Fremont, a Fremont Ross High School graduate (Women's Basketball) with a 3.87 grade point average.
  • Mike Shaneck of Northwood, a Northwood High School graduate (Baseball) with a 3.31 grade point average.
  • Monica Sims of Millbury, a Lake High School graduate (Softball) with a 3.46 grade point average.

  • Stacey Weiland of Pemberville, an Eastwood High School graduate (Women's Basketball) with a 3.52 grade point average.
  • Laura Wilson of Fremont, a Fremont Ross High School graduate (Women's Basketball) with a 3.95 grade point average.
  • Mandy Wingate of Lambertville, Mich., a Bedford High School graduate (Softball) with a 3.35 grade point average.
  • Matt Yenrick of Toledo, a Waite High School graduate (Baseball) with a 4.0 grade point average.
  • Scott Zaciewski of Toledo, a Whitmer High School graduate (Baseball) with a 3.48 grade point average.
  • Leigh Zajac of Rossford, a Rossford High School graduate (Softball) with a 3.84 grade point average.
