Owens Men's Basketball Hosts Second Annual Golf Scramble, Sept. 25

Area residents are invited to enjoy a day of golf as Owens Community College Men's Basketball presents its Second Annual Golf Scramble. The event will occur on Saturday, September 25.

Organized by the Owens men's basketball program, the golf outing will be held at Hidden Hills Golf Club in Woodville. The event will feature 18-holes of golf, a steak lunch and an awards program.

The two-person scramble golf competition will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Registration will occur at 8 a.m. The day will conclude with participants recalling their golfing experience during a short awards program, which will recognize the top twosome, as well as the longest drive, closest to the pin, the most accurate drive and the longest putt.

Individuals, businesses and organizations are invited to support the Golf Scramble by entering a team and/or by becoming a sponsor. The entry fee for a team is only $50. Those businesses that do not want to golf have the opportunity to become an event sponsor. The registration deadline for entering a team and/or becoming a sponsor is Tuesday, September 21.

The Owens men's basketball program is led by Head Coach Jim Welling. In his 19 years as the head basketball coach at Owens, he has guided the Express to many notable achievements including two NJCAA Division II National Championships in 1992 and 1993. Welling holds a career 497-114 record.

Last year, the men's basketball program finished with a 23-8 overall record and a 7- 7 mark (fourth place) in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC). Owens advanced to the semifinals of the NJCAA Region XII (District 7) Men's Basketball Championships before losing to Columbus State Community College. Welling's squad was ranked as high as No. 1 in the NJCAA Division II men's basketball poll.
