Owens Students Assist Homeless Shelter
By Organizing Clothing Drive, Nov. 15- 19

With the start of the frigid temperatures and harsh winter season in Northwest Ohio, Owens Community College students are taking the initiative of organizing a Clothing Drive to aid the homeless. The Clothing Drive will occur, Monday- Friday, November 15-19, on the Toledo-area and Findlay-area campuses.

Starting on Monday, November 15, Owens’ Student Government and the Environmental Club will accept a variety of new and used clothing items. Such items include blankets, coats, hats, gloves, boots, scarves and headbands.

“Initiating a Clothing Drive is a great opportunity for area residents and the Owens community to help those less fortunate who are in need of blankets and clothing during these very cold winter months,” said John Byers, Owens Part- Time Receptionist/Secretary for Arts and Sciences, and Environmental Club advisor.

Owens has set up a variety of collection points around the Toledo-area and Findlay-area campuses. Area residents can drop off their charitable donations on the Toledo-area Campus at the Student Health and Activities Center, the Health Technologies Building, Administration Hall, the Workforce and Community Services Building, College Hall, the Library, Alumni Hall, the Industrial and Engineering Technologies Building, the Fire Science and Law Enforcement Center, and the Transportation Technologies Center. On the Findlay-area Campus, the collection point is within the College’s Atrium.

At the conclusion of the Clothing Drive, Owens’ Student Government and the Environmental Club will be presenting the charitable donations to St. Paul’s Community Center’s Outreach Program located in downtown Toledo. The blankets and clothing will immediately be given to homeless individuals sleeping in the bitterly cold temperatures.

For a complete list of requested items for the Clothing Drive, or to make a donation, call (567) 661-7583 of 1-800-GO-OWENS, Ext. 7583.
