Owens Community College Honors Fall Athletic Programs

Owens Community College recently honored its fall athletic programs for displaying outstanding excellence during intercollegiate competition. Thirty-three student-athletes participating in women's volleyball and men's soccer were recognized for their athletic achievements, highlighted by Ashley Hill of Bellevue being named NJCAA Division II First Team All-American.

This marks eight out of nine years that at least one Owens volleyball player has received All-American honors. Hill's other honors included Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Player of the Year, NJCAA All-Region XII, as well as Owens' Co-Most Valuable Player.

Hill, a sophomore libero from Bellevue High School, holds Owens' volleyball records with 1,738 digs for a career, 1,006 digs for a season and 52 digs for a match. In addition, she played in a career record 296 games.

Led by Head Coach Sonny Lewis, the Express completed its season with a 35-13 overall record. The program captured its fourth consecutive OCCAC regular season and tournament championships, finishing with an overall 15-0 conference record (OCCAC regular season and tournament matches). During this title run, Owens has accumulated a record-setting 76 consecutive OCCAC match-winning streak.

The men's soccer program, led by Head Coach Art Johnson, recently completed its seventh season as an Owens athletic program. The Express finished with a 16-5 overall record and an 8-2 mark (second place) in the OCCAC. The 16 victories and eight shutouts registered by Owens are both school records for a season.
